Delhi. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was given a warm formal welcome in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was present on this proud occasion. It is noteworthy that this is the first official visit of Prime Minister Takaichi to India.

During the grand ceremony held in the courtyard of the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stood on the salute stage, with Prime Minister Modi present beside her. In honor of the visiting Prime Minister, the marching contingents of the three armies and the band contingents behind them performed brilliantly and came forward and saluted.
Will attend the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit
Prime Minister Takaichi is on a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to 3 at the special invitation of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to attend the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. The two Prime Ministers will hold high-level talks at ‘Hyderabad House’ here on Thursday to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defense and other key areas.
After the formal welcome ceremony was over, Prime Minister Takaichi met PM Modi along with External Affairs Minister S. Met Jaishankar and other senior members of the Union Cabinet. During this, many Union Ministers greeted Takaichi with folded hands, to which he also gladly responded with folded hands. After this both the Prime Ministers shook hands warmly and posed for photographs in front of the media.
Special bonding seen on social media
Soon after arriving in New Delhi on Wednesday on a three-day visit, the Japanese Prime Minister had shared pictures of her arrival on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). Re-sharing his post, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, you are warmly welcomed to India. We are very pleased to host you on your first visit to India. I look forward to having a wide-ranging discussion with you tomorrow on a wide range of issues, which will further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. We will continue to advance peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond through our joint efforts.”
Very important visit from diplomatic point of view
Speaking on the visit on Wednesday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that the visit is an “important step” towards furthering the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan. According to the ministry, this summit will give both sides an opportunity to closely review all dimensions of bilateral cooperation and make them stronger than before. Along with this, both the leaders will also exchange their views on regional and global issues of common interest.
New chapter of strategic partnership between India and Japan

Taking their mutual special strategic and global partnership to a new level, India and Japan have signed several agreements to enhance cooperation in the fields of economic security, defence, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cutting-edge technology, energy security and health. Both the countries have also announced several important initiatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave this information in a joint press statement after participating in the ‘India-Japan Annual Summit’ here with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is on a three-day visit to India. PM Modi said that in today’s environment of global turmoil, mutual trust between the two countries is our biggest political capital. He described a free, prosperous and rule-based Indo-Pacific region as a common priority of both the countries.
Investment of 100 trillion yen in 10 years, Japanese companies will double
Appreciating Japan’s historic contribution to India’s development journey, the Prime Minister said that from automotive to electronics, Japan has been an important partner in our progress over the last several decades. Now, further expanding this partnership, it has been agreed between the two countries that Japan will make a huge investment of 100 trillion yen in India in the next 10 years. The number of Japanese companies operating in India will be doubled.
An agreement has also been signed between financial services agencies to accelerate investment partnership, which will further facilitate the flow of capital and investment between the two countries. In the last one year, more than 100 new trade agreements have been signed between the two countries and Japanese investment of more than 10 billion dollars has come into India.
First co-development project in the defense sector: Naval Radio Antenna
Taking a historic step, both the countries have signed the first co-development project in the field of defence. This project of naval radio antenna will open a new chapter in India-Japan defense technology partnership. Now both the countries will together develop such defense technologies which will strengthen regional peace, maritime security and rule based system.
Joint Road Map for AI and Economic Security
Describing technology as the strongest pillar of cooperation, both the countries have issued a joint statement in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Many leading institutions in the Indian AI ecosystem have signed agreements with their Japanese partners. PM Modi said that this confluence of Japan’s precision technology and India’s software capability will give new momentum and power to global AI development.
Apart from this, both the countries have prepared a joint road map for ‘economic security’ in this period of global uncertainty. Through this, the supply chain in strategic areas like semiconductor, quantum and advanced materials will be strengthened.
1,000 biogas plants for rural prosperity
Major decisions have also been taken in the field of energy security. 1,000 biogas and organic fertilizer plants will be set up in India through the ‘India-Japan Biogas Initiative’. This will strengthen the ‘Goverdhan Initiative’ of the Government of India and will give new strength to village prosperity and rural livelihood.
Along with this, both the countries have also prepared ‘India-Japan Next Generation Mobility Partnership Framework’, under which the success of the automotive sector will now be replicated in areas like shipping, aeronautics and logistics. At the same time, through agreements signed in pharma, medical devices and bio-tech, both the countries will contribute to global health security.
Relationships are based on unbreakable trust
In conclusion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the economies of India and Japan complement each other. From cultural values to modern technology, there is similarity in the thinking and approach of both the countries, and above all, the foundation of our relationship rests on unwavering mutual trust. Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was given a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
