Jasprit Bumrah’s Test Series Participation in Doubt Against Sri Lanka? Here’s Why

India’s squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series is out now finally. One big name comes with a genuine question mark attached still. His inclusion doesn’t guarantee an actual spot on the field yet. Here’s exactly why this uncertainty exists heading into the series ahead.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Test Series Participation in Doubt Against Sri Lanka?

India Squad for Sri Lanka Test Announced

India named a 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. This series forms part of the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. Shubman Gill continues as captain, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain now.

India will play a four-day practice match in Colombo starting August 7. This warm-up should help the team adapt well to local conditions.

Sri Lankan pitches are expected to resemble those at Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium closely. Most of India’s core squad has been retained from recent series overall.

India Squad:

Shubman Gill [C]KL Rahul [VC]Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant [WK]Sai Sudharsan*, Dhruv Jurel [WK]Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah*, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain

Why Jasprit Bumrah’s Spot Isn’t Guaranteed

Jasprit Bumrah has been picked in the squad but isn’t confirmed yet. His availability depends entirely on clearance from the BCCI’s Center of Excellence. He suffered a left knee injury while fielding during the second ODI recently.

That injury caused swelling, forcing him to miss the third ODI too. After completing rehab, Bumrah must now pass another crucial fitness test soon. Only then will management finally confirm his place in the playing eleven.

The Backup Plan If Bumrah Sits Out

If Bumrah remains unavailable, India still have strong bowling options ready today. Mohammed Siraj would likely lead the pace attack in his absence instead. Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar should play key roles in the spin department.

Sri Lankan pitches are expected to offer real help to spinners throughout the series. Ravindra Jadeja also returns to the squad after healing from his own injury. Uncapped spinner Saransh Jain has earned a maiden call-up too this time.

He steps in after Washington Sundar was ruled out with a hamstring issue. Together, these options give India real depth regardless of Bumrah’s final status.

Fans will now closely track updates on his upcoming fitness assessment results. His comeback would give India a genuine boost heading into the series.
