Saharanpur/Lucknow. The political heat in Uttar Pradesh regarding the much talked about Jauhar University of Rampur has now spread from the capital Lucknow and Rampur to the districts of Western Uttar Pradesh. After the emotional letter written by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to students and parents, now All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has also entered the controversy.

According to a special political report of TV9 Hindi, while addressing a public meeting in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi made a very sharp and direct attack on the BJP government of the state regarding the administrative and legal actions being taken on Jauhar University. Owaisi alleged that this action of the government is not to rectify any legal deficiency, but is part of a deliberate politics of deliberately targeting the modern education of a particular community (Muslims) and the bright future of their children.

Owaisi’s roar from Saharanpur: This is not an attack on just one university

Asaduddin Owaisi, while addressing the public meeting from the stage of Saharanpur, directly linked the issue of Johar University to the rights of the minority community. He cornered the government in his usual style and said:

• Conspiracy to stop education: Owaisi alleges that since independence, efforts have been made to stop minorities from progressing in the fields of higher education and modern technical education. The unilateral action being taken against an excellent university like Johar University is the latest example of this oppressive thinking.

• Attempts to crush dreams: The AIMIM chief said that the careers of thousands of poor and promising children studying in this institute have been put at stake. The government wants to abolish this institution without any solid legal basis only because of political vendetta.

After Akhilesh Yadav, Owaisi’s sharp tone, new political equation in UP?

It is noteworthy that this controversy became bigger when SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also termed BJP as ‘anti-education’ on this issue. Now with Owaisi attacking the government in the same tone, the stir in the politics of Uttar Pradesh has intensified.

• Allegation of double duty: In his speech, Owaisi sarcastically said that there are many institutions and schools running in Uttar Pradesh which do not have complete documents, but why does the government look at only selected institutions? He said that when it comes to any big and modern educational institution built by Muslims, the entire machinery is involved in demolishing or closing it.

Political temperature rises before the monsoon session of Parliament

This aggressive statement of Asaduddin Owaisi has come at a time when exactly one day later, i.e. from 20th July 2026, in Delhi. Parliament Monsoon Session is triggered. It is believed that Owaisi will raise this issue with full prominence even within the Parliament and will ask questions to the government on the security of minority educational institutions.

After this rally in Saharanpur, the round of allegations and counter-allegations between BJP and the opposition has intensified. Leaders of the ruling party say that the government is working within the ambit of law and court orders are being followed, while Owaisi and other opposition parties are seeing it as an attempt to gain political mileage and polarize.
