Jaylen Brown is out with a concerning new injury

The Philadelphia 76ers superteam has officially hit its first pothole.

76ers star forward Jaylen Brown has been ruled out for Friday’s NBA Cup game against the New York Knicks because of left patellar tendinopathy (per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports). 76ers head coach Nick Nurse told reporters that Brown reported soreness after Wednesday’s win over the Indiana Pacers and was unable to go through shootaround on Friday morning.

Patellar tendinopathy is also known as “jumper’s knee.” The repetitive stress injury is particularly concerning for high-level basketball players as it can cause pain and inflammation when running and jumping.

Brown, 30, arrived in Philadelphia over the summer in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics. Over his first five games for the 76ers, Brown has averaged 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
