Police have registered an FIR against about 600 protesters after the clash that took place during the assembly siege on August 10. Of these, about 100 people have been named, while about 500 unidentified protesters have been made accused.
Situation worsened after barricading broke
A large number of candidates were marching towards the Assembly in Ranchi in protest against alleged paper leaks and irregularities in JPSC-JSSC examinations. The police had set up barricades to stop the protesters. When the situation worsened, the police used tear gas, water cannon and lathi charge. Police allege that some protesters pelted stones, while the protesters are raising questions about the police action.
Identification will be done through CCTV
Along with the people named in the FIR, the police have also made a large number of unidentified protesters accused. Now, on the basis of CCTV footage and available videos, people allegedly involved in violence and damage to public property are being identified.
What is the demand of the candidates?
The student organizations are demanding an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment examinations, review/cancellation of the disputed examinations, action against those responsible and a CBI inquiry into the entire matter. The agitation has been going on for several weeks and the dispute has deepened after the assembly siege.
Now the next phase of the movement
Even after the FIR, the students’ movement does not seem to be stopping. According to reports, the protesters are preparing to encircle the Chief Minister’s residence on August 20. In view of this, Ranchi administration has increased security arrangements and additional forces have been deployed around the Chief Minister’s residence.
That is, the students’ movement that started in Jharkhand regarding job examinations has now reached FIR, police action and the proposed siege of the Chief Minister’s residence. This matter can become a big challenge for the state government in the coming days.
