Jithin MS: Coming off the football map of Kerala, Jithin MS has made a name for himself at the highest level of Indian football. Full name Jitin Madathil Subran. This footballer, who once played for the reserve team of Kerala Blasters, is now one of the well-known faces of the NorthEast United FC (NorthEast United FC) attack. To be more specific, Mohun Bagan (Mohun Bagan Super Giant) was defeated by his goal on Monday (October 12). Zitin’s rise story has been a series of struggles, I-League success, Durand Cup glory and dreams of donning the national team jersey.
Originating from the football-culture of Kerala
Jitin was born on January 16, 1998 in Thrissur, Kerala. He was interested in football since childhood. The football-culture of Kerala and the experience of the local competition helped him to take the path of professional football. He also played for the Kerala state team. In his college life, the winger pursued his football career besides studying at Sri Kerala Varma College in Thrissur.
Started professional football from FC Kerala
Jeetin started his senior football journey for FC Kerala in 2016. He played six matches in the second division of the I-League for the team and scored three goals. His performance caught the attention of Kerala football circles. Later came an opportunity to join Kerala Blasters. But joining a big club does not guarantee a place in the first eleven, Jitin’s career is an example of that.
Opportunity awaits at Kerala Blasters
In 2017, Jeetin joined the reserve team of Kerala Blasters. Despite playing five matches in the second division of the I-League, he did not get a chance to establish himself for the senior team. A loan move to Ozone FC in the 2018-19 season is also part of his career. The biggest challenge in front of him was the opportunity to play regularly and the urge to prove his mettle in this phase.
Career turning point by coming to Gokulam Kerala
Gokulam Kerala FC is one of the most important chapters in Jeetin’s football career. After joining this club in 2019, he slowly made his place. Gokulam won the I-League in two consecutive seasons—2020-21 and 2021-22. Jitin played an important role in this success of the team. His ability to recover the ball in the midfield, create quick attacks and put pressure on the opposition’s defense makes him an important member of the team.
His performance in the 2021-22 season was particularly eye-catching. Apart from scoring four goals in the I-League, he also contributed to the team’s attack in various competitions. Jeetin was awarded the best midfielder in the I-League that season. His recognition at the national level began to grow beyond Kerala’s football circles.
New contacts at North East United
Jitin joined North East United FC in August 2022. His aim was to establish himself in the Indian Super League using the successful experience of the I-League. In 2022-23 season, played 16 matches in ISL and scored one goal. The following season he proved his improvement by scoring four goals in 20 matches.
One of the hallmarks of his game at North East United was pace, quickness on the ball and creating space in attack. Apart from being able to play as a winger, he can handle the responsibility in the midfield as well. As a result, there is an opportunity to use him in different roles according to the team’s strategy.
Durand Cup wins and personal achievements
Northeast United’s Durand Cup win in 2024 marked a milestone in Jitin’s career. Apart from the success of the team in the competition, he also attracted attention for his individual performance. Zitin won the Golden Ball in the 2024 edition of the Durand Cup. This is one of the most significant personal recognitions of his career.
This success proves that he has the ability to play an important role not only in the I-League but also on the big stage. His pace and tendency to go straight for goal boosted North East United’s attack.
National team jersey, new dream
Jeetin received a call-up to the Indian national team in 2024 as a reward for his consistent performance in club football. The opportunity to play for the country marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career. He also participated in international matches for India in 2024 and 2025.
Jitin’s journey is still ongoing. From local football to reserve teams, I-League success, ISL establishment and national team opportunities—he has had to prove himself at every step. In the coming days, more consistent performances for the club and getting a regular place in the national team will be his big goal. The career of this footballer from Kerala is therefore not only a personal success story but also a remarkable example of hard work and consistency in Indian football.
