West Indies opener John Campbell took the Indian bowlers to task as he scored a century off just 65 balls. The feat came in the IND vs WI second ODI in Guwahati on Wednesday. His ton is also the fastest by a Caribbean batter against India, bettering the 72-ball century record by Sir Vivian Richards in 1983.
Overall, Campbell has scored the fifth fastest hundred by a West Indian batter. Former skipper and batting legend Brian Lara still holds the record for the fastest ton when he reached the mark off just 45 balls against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first yet again. The home team made one change to their side as Auqib Nabi came in for Nitish Kumar Reddy. The visiting side, on the other hand, made four changes to the side as centurion from the last game, Justin Greaves, missed out due to injury.
Keacy Carty came out to open the batting, but it was John Campbell who stole the show. The southpaw was severe on Prasidh Krishna as he smashed the Indian pacer for 22 runs in the seventh over. Carty was out for nine runs from 10 balls.
Naman Dhir took a neat low catch to break the opening stand. Shai Hope matched his partner in aggressive intent. By the end of the ten overs, the visiting side reached 96 runs, with Campbell completing his fifty off just 29 balls.
This was also the fastest fifty by a WI batter vs IND. Campbell broke Chris Gayle’s record, with the veteran batter completing the mark off just 30 balls twice. The first occasion was against India in 2002, and the second instance happened in 2019. Campbell was eventually out for 101 off 67 balls.
