Joshua Kimmich Discusses Venomous Snake Encounter at World Cup

Germany international Joshua Kimmich revealed that he and his teammates encountered a venomous snake at their national team’s training camp during the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament. In an interview with German publication BILD, cited by DailySports, Kimmich recounted being warned about a potentially dangerous snake during training or travel.

He stated, “Yesterday we saw the snake, and we were told it was poisonous. If it bites you, you have to go to the hospital immediately. I don’t think it’s deadly, but it’s definitely very dangerous.” Kimmich also highlighted the difference between Germany and other locations, saying, “In Germany, I always felt like we just don’t have so many dangerous animals.”

Germany commenced their FIFA World Cup campaign with a commanding 7-1 victory over debutants Curacao in Houston on Monday. Kai Havertz scored twice in a second-half goal-fest that marked the four-time champions’ largest win of the tournament so far.

This victory elevated Germany above five-time champions Brazil as the all-time highest goal scorers in FIFA World Cup history, with 239 goals compared to Brazil’s 238. It also marked the fourth occasion Germany has scored seven or more goals in a World Cup match, setting a tournament record. Germany dominated possession with 64.7 per cent and registered 26 shots, while Curacao had just over 35 per cent possession and managed eight shots.
