Arsenal have emerged as the only realistic destination willing to table a concrete offer for Julián Álvarez this summer. According to BE Sports journalist Pedro Fullana, however, the Argentina international is reluctant to move to the Emirates Stadium because he does not want to live in London.
Why Arsenal’s pathway is blocked
Mikel Arteta’s side have positioned themselves as the primary suitors for the 26-year-old forward, but Álvarez is not considering a move to the English capital. Barcelona’s pursuit is currently deadlocked on financial terms, leaving the World Cup winner content to remain in Spain under Diego Simeone rather than force an exit.
The wider transfer situation around Álvarez has reached a standstill, with other potential suitors also struggling to make meaningful progress. Fullana reported that Arsenal remain the only team offering a viable route to a deal, but the player’s reluctance to relocate continues to complicate any summer move.
Atlético building around their forward
Atlético appear unfazed by the speculation and are reportedly building their upcoming campaign around Álvarez following his 20-goal contribution last season. The club are instead prioritising defensive and midfield recruitment, tracking Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella and monitoring Bernardo Silva’s situation.
That recruitment drive depends on retaining key players such as Álvarez, whose contract at the Metropolitano runs until June 2030. Atlético’s plans for the coming season are therefore closely tied to the forward remaining with the club.
World Cup takes priority
Any resolution to the situation will have to wait. Álvarez is set to pause domestic transfer discussions as he takes part in Argentina’s defence of their world title in North America this month, with the reigning champions opening Group J against Algeria in Kansas City on June 16 before facing Austria and Jordan.
Once the tournament concludes, Álvarez is expected to return to considering his long-term club future. Until then, Arsenal, Atlético and Barcelona face a situation that remains at an impasse.
