Just-launched 2026 Tata Tiago EV Undercuts MG Comet EV: Here Is How
After keeping everyone waiting for a long time Tata Motors has finally launched the updated 2026 Tata Tiago.ev in India with a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh. With this latest price cut, the Tiago.ev has now become the most affordable electric car in India. It has now officially undercut the MG Comet EV which currently starts at Rs 7.62 lakh. Along with the lower pricing, Tata Motors has also given the Tiago.ev a brand-new design, a lot more features and more safety features.
Starting off with the pricing, Tata Motors is offering the Tiago EV in four variants. The base Smart 19.2 kWh variant has been priced at Rs 6.99 lakh, Pure+ 19.2 kWh at Rs 8.49 lakh, Pure+ 24 kWh at Rs 9.49 lakh and the top-end Creative+ 24 kWh variant at Rs 9.99 lakh.
What makes pricing important is the fact that Tata Motors has actually reduced the prices of the Tiago.ev with this update. The pre-facelift Tiago.ev started at Rs 7.99 lakh and its top-of-the-line variant was priced at Rs 11.14 lakh.
Meanwhile, the MG Comet EV which used to be the most affordable electric car in India currently starts at Rs 7.62 lakh after multiple price hikes. MG Motor has increased the prices of the Comet EV several times over the last year. As a result, the Tiago.ev has undercut the Comet EV.
Tata Motors is also offering the Tiago EV with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. With this scheme, the hatchback can be bought at an initial price of Rs 4.69 lakh without the battery cost. And customers will have to pay Rs 2.60 per kilometre as battery rental charges. In comparison, the MG Comet EV’s BaaS program starts at Rs 4.99 lakh and its battery rental charge is around Rs 3.1 to Rs 3.2 per kilometre.
Although the MG Comet EV is a very practical city EV, the Tata Tiago.ev offers a much more complete package for most buyers. The biggest advantage of the Tiago.ev is practicality. Unlike the Comet EV which is a 4-seater micro EV, the Tiago EV is a proper 5-seater hatchback.
Additionally, the Tiago.ev comes offered with four doors which make ingress and egress a lot easier for rear passengers. This especially becomes very important for elderly passengers and families. The rear seat as well is much more spacious and usable for adults. It offers better legroom, more headroom and better overall comfort which will be needed for longer journeys.
Another major advantage which the Tiago.ev offers over the MG Comet EV is the boot space and luggage carrying practicality. Compared to the MG Comet EV, the Tiago.ev is much better suited for family usage, shopping runs, airport trips and occasional journeys out of station.
Additionally, the Tiago.ev. will feel more stable and confident at higher highway speeds. Meanwhile the Comet EV can mainly only be used in dense city traffic. On top of these, the Tiago.ev also gets a much more conventional hatchback design which makes it easier for buyers who want to upgrade from petrol hatchbacks.
Tata Motors has kept the same powertrain as the previous generation Tiago.ev and it still offers the same battery pack options. The smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack comes with a motor that produces 62 PS and 110 Nm of torque and offers a claimed range of 226 km. Meanwhile, the larger 24 kWh battery pack produces 75 PS and 114 Nm of torque with a claimed range of 285 km.
In comparison, the MG Comet EV comes with a smaller 17.3 kWh battery pack and it makes 42 PS and 110 Nm of torque with a claimed range of 230 km. This means the Tiago.ev offers significantly better performance and stronger highway capability.
Tata Motors claims that the updated Tiago.ev now charges 40 percent faster and can add 100 km of range in just 18 minutes. Also using a 30 kW DC fast charger, both battery packs can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. The hatchback also supports both 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW AC charging options.
Meanwhile, the base MG Comet EV only supports 3.3 kW AC charging and does not get fast charging support. Another major highlight of the Tiago.ev is the battery warranty package. Tata Motors is now offering a lifetime unlimited kilometre warranty on the 24 kWh battery pack for the first owner. The smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack continues with an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty.
The updated Tiago.ev also gets four levels of regenerative braking along with City, Sport and Drive modes. Tata Motors claims that the larger battery version can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in just 5.7 seconds.

Talking about the exterior design, the updated Tata Tiago.ev now gets a much more modern appearance than before. At the front, it features a closed-off body coloured grille along with sleek LED headlamps and eyebrow-style LED DRLs. Tata Motors has also redesigned the bumper with sharper detailing elements and faux air vents.
On the side, the hatchback now gets newly designed aero-style 14-inch alloy wheels, black wheel arch cladding, gloss black ORVMs and Tata.ev badging on the doors. Meanwhile at the rear, it gets new LED tail lamps which are joined together by a gloss black strip running across the tailgate. Tata has also redesigned the rear bumper.

To start with, four people can sit comfortably in the Tiago.ev – something not advisable in the MG Comet.
Moving inside the cabin, the Tiago.ev facelift gets a completely redesigned dashboard layout with a dual-tone black and grey theme. Tata has added premium textured inserts and better upholstery materials to improve the cabin experience.
The hatchback now comes equipped with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a digital TFT instrument cluster. Other features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology with more than 40 functions, automatic climate control, cruise control, rear AC vents, cooled glovebox, auto-folding ORVMs, dual wireless smartphone chargers, front armrest and a new rotary drive selector.
The Tiago EV also gets Tata Motors’ new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata.ev logo in the centre.
Safety has also received a major upgrade on the updated Tiago.ev. Tata Motors is now offering 6-airbags as standard across the range. The hatchback also gets a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitor, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ABS with EBD and torque vectoring by braking.
Other features include automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and follow-me-home headlamps. Tata Motors has also increased the structural rigidity of the hatchback for better crash protection. The MG Comet EV based variant on the other hand misses out on features like ESC, hill hold assist, reverse camera and LED lighting, the Tiago.ev offers a significantly stronger safety package.
