Andhra Pradesh High Court gets its first woman Chief Justice, CM Naidu congratulated, know who is Justice Lisa Gill
Andhra Pradesh HC First Woman CJ Lisa Gill: Chandigarh The Central Government has approved the transfer of Punjab-Haryana High Court Judge Lisa Gill to Andhra Pradesh High Court following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. Information about this decision was shared by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on the social media platform ‘X’. He said that this decision has been taken under the Constitution of India by the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Decision taken under constitutional process
The process of transfer of judges is based on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium, which is given final approval by the Central Government. This transfer is also part of the same process, which is done keeping in mind the balance in the judiciary and administrative needs.

Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Lisa Gill. He posted on X and wrote, “My hearty congratulations to Honorable Justice Lisa Gill on being appointed as the first woman Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. This historic milestone is an important step towards increasing the representation of women in the higher judiciary.”

He further wrote, ‘Over the years, Justice Gill has built a distinguished and exemplary legal career, in which he has skillfully handled a wide range of cases involving civil, criminal and constitutional law, and has earned deep respect for his commitment to justice. I wish Justice Lisa Gill a successful, inspiring and impressive tenure in upholding the rule of law and dispensing justice with intelligence and integrity.”

Who is Lisa Gill?
Lisa Gill started her law practice in 1990. She specialized in criminal, civil, service, revenue and constitutional matters and was appointed judge of the Punjab-Haryana High Court on 31 March 2014. Lisa Gill did her schooling from Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh. She completed her graduation from Government College for Girls and then completed her BA, LLB and LLM from Panjab University. He has also represented the Chandigarh Administration and several government boards for a long time.
Position of judges in High Court
The total number of sanctioned judges in the Punjab-Haryana High Court is 85, while at present 61 judges are serving. In such a situation, such transfers are also considered important from the point of view of balancing judicial work.
