Justice Shekhar Yadav will retire tomorrow, impeachment motion will end

Bureau Prayagraj. Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav is set to retire on Wednesday (April 15), while the impeachment motion against him has been pending for more than a year. Now the impeachment motion will become meaningless after his retirement. Justice Yadav was sworn in as an additional judge of the High Court on 12 December 2019 and was made a permanent judge on 26 March 2021.

There was a lot of criticism for the objectionable words.

While delivering a lecture on “Constitutional Need for Uniform Civil Code” at an event organized by the Legal Cell of Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Prayagraj on December 8, 2024, Justice Yadav had said that the country will be run according to the wishes of the majority society. During this, he also used an objectionable word, which was widely criticized. Taking cognizance of this speech, the Supreme Court had sought clarification from Justice Yadav. Not only this, he was asked to express regret, but he refused to do so and said that he had not said anything wrong.

Impeachment motion on 13 December
After this, on 13 December 2024, the impeachment motion against him was submitted to the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, which was signed by 55 MPs, which is more than the required number of 50 MPs. Although this impeachment motion is still pending in the Rajya Sabha, but before that Justice Yadav is retiring. On the occasion of his retirement, a full court reference has been held in Allahabad High Court. Full court reference is set for Wednesday at 3.45 pm in the Chief Justice’s court. Apart from all the judges of the High Court, advocate members of the Bar Association and officials of the High Court Registry will be included in this. An invitation has been sent to everyone by the High Court to participate.
