Yash opens up about face-off with Ranbir in ‘Ramayana’
The makers of Ramayana: Part 1 are building one of the biggest film events in recent years, but fans will have to wait a little longer to witness the key face-off, which they are eagerly anticipating.
Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana. Still, the two will not share screen space in the first instalment.
Speaking at CinemaCon alongside Namit Malhotra, the 40-year-old actor confirmed the decision, suggesting the story is being carefully stretched across two films.
“Interestingly, we both have never come together on screen in this film… in the first part, I think we have… my own kingdom, and Rama has his own kingdom,” he said.
The separation is being framed not as a limitation, but as a build-up.
The KGF star added, “But yeah, we have met a couple of times, and he’s such a fabulous actor. I think it is mutual respect which has played out. Chemistry is like, when you’re out to do something phenomenal, and it’s as ambitious as Ramayana, all of us have a single agenda: to give our best to present this story. I think our visions are aligned, so the chemistry’s not even an issue. We’re enjoying.”
Director Nitesh Tiwari is also taking a different route with Ravana. Instead of a one-note villain, the character will carry layers.
“He was a great warrior… a scholar, a benevolent king… There was so much to him,” he said, adding that ego and vengeance remain central to his downfall.
Ranbir Kapoor echoed the scale of the role. “To play Ravana, you need somebody who has that aura… His interpretation… is very different.”
The film also features Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey, with a global release planned for Diwali 2026. The second part is set for 2027.
