The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has intensified the search for the new head of the England Test team. According to reports, former Australian opening batsman and current Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer has emerged as the biggest contender for this post. Earlier, ECB had talked to Andy Flower, but he distanced himself from the race. After this the board changed its priority and focused on Langer.
Justin Langer is currently the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. It is not yet clear whether if he takes charge of England, will he be allowed to continue coaching in franchise cricket. However, Langer’s coaching record has been excellent and he has achieved many great successes with Australia.
Justin Langer’s journey with Australia was wonderful
Justin Langer took charge of Australia in 2018 after the ball tampering controversy. Under his leadership the team made a great comeback. Australia reached the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup, retained the Ashes in England and won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021. Apart from this, the team won the Ashes series 4-0 on home ground in the same year. However, there were reports of differences in the dressing room regarding his strict coaching style.
Lucknow Super Giants may also get a big blow
If the ECB appoints Justin Langer as head coach and he accepts the offer, then Lucknow Super Giants may have to find a new head coach. The franchise is already going through a phase of change after the departure of captain Rishabh Pant. In such a situation, the departure of the coach can also become a big challenge for the team. At the same time, England’s Test team is expected to get a new direction with the support of an experienced coach like Langer.
