The batters Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige have been included in the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming second test against India at Colombo.
Sri Lanka is missing the first-choice batters (Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal) due to injuries. Mendis was sidelined due to a hamstring injury, while Nissanka is recovering from a wrist injury.
On the other hand, Dinesh Chandimal suffered a blow to his head during the first test and failed to pass the concussion test.
According to ICC rule stipulate that, players who are substituted for concussion-related reasons cannot play for seven days. Hence, Pasindu has been named as his replacement.
However, he did not make any impact as he got out for a duck in his first test innings. Nissanka, who is recovering from a wrist injury, is much closer to being fit than Kusal Mendis, but is still experiencing discomfort while batting.
Kusal Mendis has been out of action since his injury in the early stages of the LPL 2026. He was replaced by Niroshan Dickwella in the test squad and has made 80 in the first innings.
“Kusal Mendis has a proper hamstring injury, and will not be available for a while,” said head coach Gary Kirsten.
“Dinesh is also not available for the next Test. So we’re missing a few guys from that perspective, but it creates a good opportunity for young players to come in and stake their claim. Some players have got really good first-class records in this country. It’s a good opportunity for them.”
Sri Lanka is yet to name their squad for the second test. The hosts will be aiming for a win to level the series. Currently, they are in the sixth position of the WTC 2025-27, just below India.
The second test is set to commence on August 23 at SSC Cricket GroundColombo.
