Kangana Ranaut Criticises Kriti Sanon’s Ad, Calls It ‘Intentionally Creepy’- “Why Would You Tie Rakhi In Your Undergarments?”

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement has drawn criticism for her outfit, with Kangana Ranaut calling the campaign creepy. She also questioned the styling, suggesting that the actress’s look was inappropriate for a festival centred on family bonds, sparking debate over fashion choices and festive advertising. Kriti Sanon’s latest Raksha Bandhan advertisement has sparked an online debate over its styling. The actor features in the festive campaign wearing an Indo-Western outfit paired with a bralette-style blouse, which has drawn criticism from several viewers. While the advertisement appears to offer a modern interpretation of festive fashion, some questioned whether the look suits the traditional occasion.

The actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has also joined the discussion, criticising the campaign’s styling. She called the advertisement “intentionally creepy” and objected to Kriti’s outfit, describing the blouse as resembling a “bikini/underwear.”

Kangana took to her Instagram Stories on Monday evening to react to the advertisement. She highlighted the wide range of fashion choices available to women today, from Western wear to traditional Indian clothing. She questioned why, despite these options, the makers chose to dress Kriti in an outfit she compared to a bikini or undergarments for a Raksha Bandhan campaign, calling attention to the styling choice.

Kangana penned on her Instagram story: “Our closets are full of a variety of clothes, today’s woman is a global woman.” She then said women have the option to wear cocktail dresses, lehenga choli, jeans, sarees, bikinis etc. The actress then asked, “Why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments?” She strongly questioned the styling choices used for the advertisement and concluded by calling the campaign “intentionally creepy.”

Kriti Sanon’s Ad Is Getting Criticised

Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat actress Suzanne Bernert also criticised the advertisement. Sharing her views on X, she said revealing clothes should not automatically be linked to modernity or women’s empowerment. Suzanne wrote: “Less clothes doesn’t mean modern. Less clothes isn’t women empowerment!” She added that the outfit and styling seemed better suited to a club-themed advertisement than a campaign celebrating Raksha Bandhan. Suzanne felt the campaign failed to reflect the festival’s deep significance, cultural importance and the reverence with which the occasion is traditionally observed across India.

In a separate post, she said that despite having a liberal German mindset, she found the commercial inappropriate. She stressed that Raksha Bandhan holds deep cultural significance and felt the advertisement portrayed the festival more like a party. According to her, the treatment failed to respect its traditional essence and emotional value. “Wearing less clothes being sold as empowerment was one of the biggest disservices done to women.”

Kriti Sanon has not yet made any public statement addressing the criticism surrounding her.
