New Delhi, 24 August 2026: India's 19-year-old Grandmaster Pranesh Ame has made the country proud by winning the Group A title of the prestigious Kanijsa Open Chess Competition held in Hungary. In the final ninth round, Praneshe defeated Vadim Petrovsky of Germany. Pranesh with rating of 2673 is ranked 44th in the FIDE rankings of August-2026. Praneshe of Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, won the title on the basis of tie-break by scoring seven points in nine rounds, leaving behind Israel's Auer Bronstein, Ukraine's Andrei Volokitin and India's Karthik Venkataraman.
Pranesh, a resident of Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu, finished with seven points in nine rounds, and shared the top position with three other players. He won the title on a better tie-break with Israel's Orr Bronstein, Ukraine's Andrey Volokitin and India's Karthik Venkatraman, who finished second to fourth in that order. The Indian Embassy in Hungary congratulated Pranesh for winning the title.
