Karan Johar’s iconic talk show Koffee With Karan is coming to an end, with Season 9 confirmed as its last, the filmmaker announced in an emotional promo on Wednesday.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the 54-year-old wrote, “I think we need to talk. Over Koffee, of course. Hotstar Specials: Koffee with Karan Season 9, streaming 14th October onwards on JioHotstar.”
The promo sees him reflecting on how the show began in 2004, when he pitched the idea to his father Yash Johar, who passed away shortly after the first episode aired that August.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director jokes in the video about the show landing him in nepotism debates for years, hosting couples who later married or split, and even “nearly ending the careers” of some national icons.
In a press note, he said, “There are some journeys you don’t plan to end, you simply know, somewhere deep within you, when it is time to let them go. Koffee With Karan has been an extraordinary part of my life.
It has given me friendships, memories, moments of complete madness, a lot of love and, yes, its fair share of controversy! But through all of it, what has remained constant is the audience.”
The Sometimes there is happiness and sometimes there is sorrow. maker added, “Saying goodbye is emotional, but it also feels right. This final season is my way of raising the mug one last time with gratitude, with love and with everyone who has made Koffee With Karan what it is. So, come have one last cup of Koffee with me. One last time.”
He also revealed that more people ask him about the show’s new season than about his upcoming films.
The final season, promising one last round of gossip, rapid-fire rounds and coffee hampers, drops on JioHotstar starting October 14.
