‘Women were not left safe anywhere..’, Karnataka HC made strict comment on Bengaluru Metro incident.

Karnataka HC Metro Photo Controversy: The Karnataka High Court has taken a strict stand in the matter of taking photos and videos of women without their knowledge while traveling in the metro and posting them on social media. While hearing the case on Monday, the High Court rejected the man’s petition. In this, a demand was made to cancel the FIR registered against him. Justice M Nagaprasanna, while rejecting the petition filed by the youth, orally said, “What nonsense is this, you take pictures of women and post them.” What kind of man are you? Justice Nagaprasanna expressed strong objection to the lawyer’s argument.

Women were not left safe

He said why did you take pictures, you do not leave women safe anywhere. In response to this, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the police itself is the complainant in this case. The lawyer also said that the CCTV footage available with the Metro officials can also be verified. Responding to this, the court said that such acts cannot be canceled on technical grounds. It is time that in some cases we should stop taking decisions based on technical details. I will not let such things happen.

Bengaluru Police had registered a case against the youth under Section 78 (2) of the BNS (stalking) and Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing and transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

According to the information received, the young man comes from Peenya to Indira Nagar by metro every day. During this time he made photo-videos of unknown women. Later it was posted online on an Instagram handle. At present this account has now been blocked. 13 videos were uploaded on the Instagram page by the youth. Comments were disabled in this. After the video went viral, social media protests started. After this all the posts were deleted from the page. A user had complained about this by tagging Bengaluru Police.

Police took action on this. The lawyer representing the accused in the case argued in the court that nothing obscene was shown in the pictures posted by the youth.
