Karnataka Shivmogga Landslide: A terrible tragedy that occurred in Shivamogga district of Karnataka on Sunday morning shook the area. Due to heavy rains, a part of the mountain suddenly collapsed and buried a workers’ hut under it. Three members of the same family died on the spot in this tragedy. As a three-year-old child was also among the dead, there is a sense of shock in the entire area.
How long has this incident been going on?
The incident took place in the Indira Nagar area of Tirthahalli taluka at around 2:30 am. At that time, most of the people were fast asleep. Suddenly, there was a loud noise and the soil and stones from the hillside fell on the hut. In a few moments, the entire hut was covered in rubble.
Debris removal work begins
After the accident, local residents immediately rushed to help. They started the rescue operation even in the darkness and incessant rain. At the same time, the police and fire brigade were informed. Three bodies were recovered.
Three bodies were recovered during the rescue operation. The deceased include 35-year-old Mallikarjun , 28-year-old Nagven and their three-year-old son Santosh. The family originally hailed from Kokkaregaru village in Gangavati taluka of Koppal district. They had come to Shivamogga in search of employment and had been living in the area for the past two years.
Another worker, who lives in a nearby hut, was seriously injured in the accident. He was immediately admitted to the hospital and is undergoing treatment by doctors. His condition is critical, the local administration said.

According to preliminary information from officials, the soil on the mountain had loosened due to heavy rains for the past few days. This is why the landslide suddenly occurred in the morning. The risk of such incidents has increased due to heavy rainfall in the Malnad area this year.
