Kejriwal-Sisodia visit Rajghat regarding ‘Satyagraha’, pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Amidst the political turmoil in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal reached Rajghat with his party leaders. This visit is being described as a protest and “satyagraha” regarding a case related to Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma. Manish Sisodia, Atishi and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders were also present along with Kejriwal. The leaders paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and expressed their views there and registered a symbolic protest. The former Chief Minister said that he fully respects the judiciary of the country and the freedom and order that exists in the country today is possible only because of the judicial system. He also said that such circumstances have arisen that they have to resort to “Satyagraha”.

According to Kejriwal, he has sent all the information related to this matter through a letter to the concerned Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma. Describing it as a very sensitive matter, he said that he does not want to comment further on it publicly. Kejriwal had informed through social media in the morning that he will go to Rajghat with Manish Sisodia at 12 noon to seek “Bapu’s blessings”. As per the scheduled programme, he reached there along with Atishi and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders. At Rajghat, first Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, after which other leaders also paid their respects by offering flowers.

Satyagraha against Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma

Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have announced to boycott Delhi High Court Judge Swarnakanta Sharma. Both the leaders have termed the move as “satyagraha” and said that they no longer expect justice in the case. Arvind Kejriwal said that he had earlier presented his views before the court, but his arguments were rejected. After this, according to him, the only option left was “Satyagraha” as a form of protest. He described it as inspired by the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi. Both Kejriwal and Sisodia said that in the current circumstances they do not expect to get justice from Justice Swarnakanta Sharma, hence they have decided not to appear in the court.

what happened so far

The legal battle in the case related to the alleged liquor scam has reached a new turn. Recently, the trial court had acquitted 23 leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia. This order has been challenged by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the High Court. This case has been listed before the bench of Justice Swarankanta Sharma. Expressing objection to this, Kejriwal had demanded that the case be heard in some other bench. Arvind Kejriwal had also written a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court for this, but when the request was not accepted, he filed a recusal petition. This petition was also rejected. After the petition was rejected, Kejriwal has announced to adopt the path of “Satyagraha” as a form of protest. According to him, he has described it as a peaceful struggle for justice. Kejriwal and his team have indicated that they are also considering going to the Supreme Court of India to challenge this decision.
