Union Minister JP Nadda condemned the incident
New Delhi. Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that people affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 'cleansed' the stage at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, where he had given a speech.
Kharge demanded that a case should be registered against those who 'cleansed' the stage in Haldwani under the Untouchability Act and they should be arrested and sent to jail. Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and House leader and Union Minister JP Nadda condemned the incident.
When the Rajya Sabha proceedings began on the last day of the monsoon session, Kharge said that he had not taken the name of any religion or any section of the society in his speech, yet people associated with the BJP sanitized the stage. The Congress president said that he had addressed a public meeting at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani and I only talked about the problems of the people. He said that later BJP people cleaned the stage.
Kharge asked, does democracy work like this? How are you protecting the Constitution? He said that he has no intention of politicizing the issue, but he has been insulted by purifying the platform.
House leader Nadda said that the entire matter will be investigated and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty. Nadda said, this is a very sad incident, not only for the Congress but for all of us. BJP does not support such activities. We will investigate it and I condemn this incident. Chairman Radhakrishnan also condemned the incident and asked the government to investigate the matter. He said untouchability is a crime. This matter should be investigated.
