Kim Mu Yeol and Lee Jung Eun join forces for revenge thriller ‘Granny’
K-drama fans can look forward to another exciting adaptation, as the upcoming webtoon-based series Granny begins filming on July 5 and is scheduled to premiere in early 2027. According to reports, Kim Mu Yeol and Lee Jung Eun will star in the drama, which will adapt the gripping story from the popular Kakao webtoon of the same name.
Granny, which debuted on Kakao in June 2019, has received praise for its distinct blend of mystery, action, and emotional storytelling. The webtoon follows an ordinary grandmother whose life is turned upside down by a devastating personal tragedy, propelling her on a path of vengeance and justice.
The story revolves around Sook-ja, a 70-year-old woman who runs a gun shop with her husband and lives a peaceful, ordinary life. Their greatest source of happiness is their beloved grandson, Yong-hee, who brings them light and joy.
Tragically, Yong-hee dies unexpectedly upon his return home, leaving Sook-ja and her husband devastated. As she struggles to cope with the heartbreaking loss, Sook-ja meets her grandson’s former colleagues, Yeon-woo and Kwak, who reveal disturbing details about a previously unknown assault case.
The shocking revelations reveal a much larger conspiracy involving one of South Korea’s most powerful corporate gangster groups. Sook-ja is furious after discovering the truth about her grandson’s death and the secrets surrounding the criminal network. She is then presented with a mysterious offer that will change her life forever.
From that point forward, the elderly grandmother’s quiet life takes a dramatic turn as she embarks on a perilous journey filled with vengeance, hidden truths, and an unwavering pursuit of justice. What begins as a story about a grieving grandmother quickly becomes a battle against corruption and organised crime.
Lee Jung Eun is reportedly set to play Sook-ja, one of the webtoon’s most compelling characters. Kim Mu Yeol is also expected to play an important role in the adaptation, though details about his character have yet to be officially revealed.
The series is expected to stay true to the source material while expanding on the emotional depth and action-packed narrative for television audiences. Given the growing popularity of webtoon adaptations, Granny has already sparked intense interest among fans eager to see its powerful story unfold on screen.
Granny is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Korean drama adaptations, with filming set to begin on July 5 and a release date in early 2027. The series, which combines emotional storytelling, suspense, revenge, and crime, promises to be a gripping viewing experience when it premieres.
