Tezzbuzz Desk- Amidst the discussion on the Anti Paper Leak Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju targeted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. He said that Rahul Gandhi should also spend at least five minutes of his speech on the key features and provisions of this important bill. Rijiju alleged that the opposition was engaged in political rhetoric instead of meaningful discussion on the bill.
Talking to reporters in the Parliament complex, Rijiju said that the government has brought this law with the aim of ensuring transparency in competitive examinations and to stop incidents like paper leaks. He said that students across the country had been demanding for a long time that the examination system should be made more fair and secure, keeping this in mind this amendment bill has been brought.
The Union Minister alleged that Congress MPs did not hold any concrete discussion on the provisions of the bill. He said, “Discussion is going on on such an important bill, but the opposition is constantly trying to divert attention and politicize the issue by raising unnecessary issues. We were hopeful that Rahul Gandhi and other opposition members would also express their views on the positive aspects of this law.”
Rijiju also objected to the language of Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that the Leader of the Opposition was not using language as per parliamentary decorum. According to him, it is natural to have differences in a democratic system, but the discussion should always be in decent and respectful language. He said that the use of derogatory and unparliamentary words is not compatible with the dignity of Parliament.
During the discussion on the Anti Paper Leak Amendment Bill, there was a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition on many issues. The government claims that this law has been brought to increase transparency in public examinations, to strictly prevent incidents like cheating and paper leaks and to protect the interests of students, while the opposition prominently raised issues related to government policies and student movements during the discussion.
