New Delhi, 18 September 2026: Preparations for the 2027 One-Day World Cup have already started. Teams from India to Australia and Pakistan are busy preparing their best 'playing eleven' combinations. This tournament is to be held from October 4 to November 21 next year, in which a total of 14 teams from around the world will participate. Like always, many records can be seen broken in this World Cup also.
Talking about the bowlers who took the most wickets in the One-Day World Cup, this record is in the name of Australia's Glenn McGrath, who took 41 wickets. However, if we talk about the Indian bowler who took the most wickets in this tournament, his name may surprise you. Jasprit Bumrah is at fourth place in this list.
Most wickets for India in the World Cup
Mohammed Shami holds the record of taking the most wickets for India in the history of One-Day World Cup. So far, he has taken 55 wickets in 18 matches, which makes him the highest wicket taker among Indian players. Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the 2023 One-Day World Cup, in which he took 24 wickets in 7 matches. Apart from this, he took 14 wickets in 4 matches in the 2019 World Cup and 17 wickets in 7 matches in the 2015 tournament. Shami, who has played three World Cups so far, has actually been the main bowler of Team India.
Bumrah is fourth
Zaheer Khan is second among India's most successful World Cup bowlers; He took 44 wickets in 23 matches, while Javagal Srinath took 44 wickets in 34 matches. Shami is the only Indian bowler who has taken more than 50 wickets in the One-Day World Cup.
However, Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently in fourth place with 38 wickets, can gradually move up in this list. He has taken eight wickets in 20 matches. Behind him are Anil Kumble (31 wickets), Kapil Dev (28 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (27 wickets).
55 wickets – Mohammed Shami
44 wickets – Zaheer Khan
44 wickets – Javagal Srinath
38 wickets – Jasprit Bumrah
31 wickets – Anil Kumble
28 wickets – Kapil Dev
27 wickets – Ravindra Jadeja
It is unfortunate that the chances of Mohammed Shami playing in the 2027 One-Day World Cup seem slim. He has not been included in the Indian team for the one-day series against Thane West Indies starting from September 27. However, Ravindra Jadeja has made a comeback.
