New Delhi, 07 November 2026: Virat Kohli has so far scored 86 centuries in his international career, which is second in the list of most centuries. Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is at the top position with 100 centuries. Currently, Kohli is the only player who can break Sachin's record. However, as Kohli nears the end of his career, former Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nair has commented that he does not have enough matches left to reach the 100 century mark.
It is noteworthy that Kohli currently plays only in One-Day (ODI) format for India. He retired from T20 cricket in 2024 and from Test cricket in 2025. After the 2027 ODI World Cup, Kohli may also retire from ODI cricket, which will bring an end to his international cricket career. Given this, he actually has very few matches left. To equal Sachin's record, that is, to reach the total of 100 centuries, Kohli needs to score 14 more centuries, whereas to break this record, he will have to score 15 centuries.
Abhishek Nair on Kohli's 100 centuries
Speaking on JioStar, Abhishek Nair said, “I don't think he has enough matches left to reach that target before the World Cup. I want him to achieve this, but to reach such a target you have to play a sufficient number of matches. It is possible that he will continue playing even after the World Cup, but my focus is on the period till the World Cup. After the World Cup, his enthusiasm and motivation may not be the same as before.”
It will be interesting to see whether Kohli can become the second batsman in the world to cross the milestone of 100 centuries in international cricket. The 2027 World Cup is to start from October 2. According to reports, before this tournament the Indian team can play 13 to 24 one-day matches (ODIs). Apart from this, they will also play additional matches during the World Cup.
