3 arrested including supervisor in Kolkata warehouse accident, CM Suvendu Adhikari maintains silence on compensation announcement

CM Suvendu Adhikari SSKM Hospital Visit: The death toll in Kolkata’s Taratala warehouse accident has reached 5 while many people are still trapped under the debris. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited SSKM hospital and met those injured in the warehouse shed collapse incident in Taratala. So far 21 people have been rescued and the injured are being treated.

After visiting SSKM hospital, Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, 5 people have died, 20 are injured, most of the workers were from Bihar. Our priority is to rescue all the people trapped under the debris.”

After the warehouse collapse incident in Kolkata, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari did not even announce compensation for the workers. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, ‘I will not say anything about compensation because the Assembly session is going on. I will talk about this in the Assembly tomorrow with the permission of the Speaker.”

The injured were taken to the hospital by making a green corridor.

Suvendu Adhikari held a press conference after the collapse of the warehouse being built in Kolkata. In the press conference, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, ‘Within an hour of the incident, the rescue team started the operation and started working. So far 21 people have been rescued. The injured are undergoing treatment. Around 20 ambulances have been deployed under the supervision of senior officials and are continuously working at the spot.

He further said, ‘Kolkata Police has also created a green corridor to take the injured to the hospital quickly. Our top priority has been the rescue operation, and it is important to give rescue workers the space and opportunity to do their job effectively.”

3 people arrested

These people have been arrested in the case of collapse of the warehouse shed being built in Taratala, Kolkata.

Accident happened due to building plan

On the Taratala warehouse accident, the Chief Minister said that this incident happened due to the wrong building plan of the warehouse being built. He also informed that action will be taken against its owners. The building plan was approved on January 17 this year, the official said. Initially, KMC engineers said that there was something wrong with the building plan.

The engineer will send us a detailed report later today. Action will be taken against the owners, who have been identified as Behera Brothers. The Chief Minister further said that work on all commercial properties being built in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area will remain closed till July 31.

The official said that after today’s incident, I have directed KMC to stop work on all commercial properties being built till July 31. We will check their building plans, site plans and site visits. Those whose documents are found correct can resume work from August 1.
