Korean food chain to close last outlet in Singapore after 18 years

Korean restaurant chain Seoul Yummy will close its last remaining outlet in Singapore on Oct. 22, ending 18 years of operations in the city-state.

The homegrown brand was established in 2008 and previously operated outlets at locations including ION Orchard, Bugis+ and Marina Square, Channel News Asia reported.

Seoul Yummy is known for dishes including army stew, cheese pot and hot plate dishes, and is regarded as one of the brands that helped popularize army stew in Singapore.

Its last remaining outlet is serving at Kallang Wave Mall.

“From its early days to its final chapter, Seoul Yummy has remained a familiar name for those who grew up enjoying Korean cuisine with family and friends,” said the chain.

“Its closure marks the end of an era for a homegrown brand that helped shape Singapore’s love for Korean food.”

Singapore saw 2,101 food business closures between January and July this year, an increase of 25.1% year-on-year amid rising costs and high rents, according to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
