Kushinagar. With the increase in water in the catchment area of Gandak River, the pressure of the river has also increased. On Saturday, continuously increasing amount of water was released from Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage. Water discharge from the barrage was recorded at 2.80 lakh cusecs at 10 am, which increased to 2.86 lakh cusecs at 11 am.
According to the data of the Irrigation Department, at 11 o'clock the discharge upstream of the barrage was recorded at 2,86,800 cusecs and the water level was recorded at 359.00 feet. The downstream water level was 357.20 feet. Downstream discharge was also recorded at 2,86,800 cusecs. During this period the discharge in EMC and MWC remained zero.
Whereas in Devghat, Nepal, a discharge of 4,03,200 cusecs of water was recorded at 10:35 am. Due to this, there may be a situation of further increase in water level in Gandak River. In view of the increasing flow of the river, it is necessary to maintain surveillance and vigilance in the coastal areas.
According to officials, the water level and discharge of the river is being continuously monitored. People of coastal villages need to be cautious about the rising water level of the river.
