Ladki Bahin Yojana: Ladki Bahin Yojana e-KYC completed; 66 lakh applications rejected, 1.66 crore women will get benefits

Ladki Bahin Yojana: Maharashtra government’s very ambitious and much-talked about ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ has once again come into the spotlight due to a big decision. The very important e-KYC and Aadhaar verification process of this scheme, which was launched to make economically weaker women in the state self-reliant, has been completed. This verification has secured the accounts of genuine and needy beneficiaries, paving the way for direct bank transfer (DBT) of the July installment.

66 lakh applications ineligible; Final list of 1.66 crore women

The number of applications registered at the beginning of the scheme was very large. However, to bring transparency, the government launched Aadhaar linking and digital scrutiny campaign across the state. In this strict scrutiny, about 66 lakh applications were found ineligible and they have been removed from the beneficiary list by taking administrative action. After scrutiny, 1.66 crore women from across the state have now become fully eligible for this scheme and their final list has been prepared. Ladki Bahin Yojana

Main reasons for ineligibility and CAG’s objection

There are some technical and legal reasons behind this large-scale culling. In many applications, errors were found such as the annual family income being more than 2.5 lakhs, the family having a four-wheeler, or the family members being in government jobs or tax payers. Apart from this, in some places, it was found that men also applied by misusing the technical system. The recently submitted CAG report also recommended tightening financial control and beneficiary verification, taking note of which the government launched this important campaign. Ladki Bahin Yojana

6-month extension for women with technical errors

The state government has given a big relief to genuine and eligible women whose applications are pending due to non-linking of their bank accounts with Aadhaar or incomplete e-KYC. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has clarified that no genuine eligible woman will be deprived of the scheme. The government has given an additional extension of 6 months to correct technical errors and complete e-KYC. Ladki Bahin Yojana
