Mumbai, 3 May. In a major development regarding ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’, a scheme to provide assistance to economically weaker women in Maharashtra, 54 lakh women have been declared ineligible after a strict verification drive. The state government has updated the list of beneficiaries after the completion of the mandatory e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) process. Out of the total registered applicants, approximately 54 lakh women have been considered ineligible and have been removed from the scheme. As per the final figures, the total number of eligible beneficiary women is now 1.89 crore. Earlier, more than 2.43 crore women had registered for this scheme.
Names deleted after 30th April
The government initiated an intensive verification process to ensure that only targeted low-income families received the monthly assistance of Rs 1,500. Despite the deadline being extended thrice, lakhs of women failed to complete their verification by the final cut-off date of April 30. This scheme is especially for those families whose annual income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh. Investigation revealed that the income of many beneficiaries was more than this limit. Cases also came to light where women whose family members were in government service, or who were government employees themselves, were also availing the benefits of the scheme.
Only eligible women will get Rs 1500
Many women were disqualified due to technical errors in their applications; For example, erroneously marking oneself as a government employee during initial registration. The monthly payment of Rs 1,500 to eligible women in the updated list will continue to be deposited directly into their bank accounts. Financial assistance for women who have been declared ineligible will be stopped with immediate effect. In some serious cases of fraud, the government has also started recovery of the amount previously distributed to those ineligible persons.
