It also owns three percent of EFL Championship football club Queens Park Rangers. Mittal currently lives in Switzerland and United Arab Emirates. Earlier he was living in United Kingdom from 1995 to 2025.
‘The third richest person in the world’
In 2005, Forbes declared Mittal the third richest person in the world, making him the first Indian to make it to the top-10 in the annual list of the world’s richest people. In 2011, Forbes ranked him the sixth richest person in the world, but in March 2015 he dropped to 82nd place. Due to decline in net worth, he will remain at 130th position by October 2024. His daughter Vanisha Mittal’s wedding (which took place in 2005) was the sixth most expensive wedding in recorded history.

Mittal has many luxurious bungalows
Lakshmi Mittal, popularly known as Steel King, is counted among those rich people of the world who have bought the most expensive bungalows. According to media reports, Mittal owns several luxurious bungalows, jets, a yacht, more than 20 expensive cars, a luxury vanity van. However, there was a time in Mittal’s life when he lived in great poverty. At the time of Lakshmi Mittal’s birth, her father Mohanlal Mittal’s financial condition was not good. To overcome financial crisis, Mittal’s father moved to Kolkata with his family two years after his birth. He had taken a house on rent in an apartment on Chitpur Road.

Mohanlal started working in a factory in Kolkata. However, even here his conditions did not improve. Due to financial constraints, the family was not able to get food on time. Mohanlal started working harder to support the family. When the circumstances improved a bit, he thought of starting his own business and started a business named Nippon Denro Ispat. Mittal’s childhood and education took place in Kolkata only.

When there is no money for food in Mittal’s house
According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, in 2007, when Lakshmi Mittal came with her family to inaugurate a community center in her birthplace Rajasthan. During this time, his father Mohanlal Mittal, while remembering his old days, had said that he has not forgotten his days of poverty. During this time, he had also told that the financial condition of his house was so bad that he could not even get food on time.
