Lebanon Update: President seeks help from America, urges to remove Israel from Southern Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has sought help from America so that Israel completely withdraws from the occupied areas of southern Lebanon. He expressed hope that America will take care that the recent agreement is not violated. The main objective of this move is to deploy the Lebanese Army (LAF) on the international border.

This conversation came to light after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and President Aoun. President Trump congratulated the agreement between Lebanon and Israel. This agreement was completed through the mediation of America. President Aoun thanked the US for the support given to Lebanon’s government institutions and called for implementing the agreement.

The main points of this entire matter are given below:

  • Agreement information: On June 26, 2026, a framework agreement was signed between Lebanon, Israel and the United States in Washington. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called this the first step towards peace.
  • Main goals: The purpose of this agreement is to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and destroy Hezbollah’s weapons and infrastructure.
  • Army deployment: According to the agreement, Israel will withdraw its forces from two ‘pilot areas’, after which the Lebanese army will take control there.
  • Israel’s stance: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that until Hezbollah is completely disarmed, Israel will remain present in most of the occupied territories.
  • American financial aid: The US has pledged $100 million for humanitarian aid and more than $30 million for the Lebanese army.

A Military Coordination Group (MCG4L) has been formed with the help of America to oversee the security arrangements. However, Hezbollah has strongly opposed this agreement and started demonstrations against it. Hezbollah says that the condition of laying down arms is against their rights.

President Trump has indicated to soon call President Aoun to Washington and hold a meeting.
