According to The New York Times, LeBron is considering residing in Manhattan. He would use a helicopter to travel the distance between New York and Philadelphia. The 150-km journey would take around 45 minutes, saving him significant travel time between the two cities. This flight is about an hour faster than going by car.
However, this travel plan faces many obstacles, as strict regulations regarding helicopter operations are currently enforced throughout New York City.
Following a series of accidents, the city government tightened the licensing process for civilian and commercial flights, strictly prioritizing police and medical operations. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has included restrictions on air traffic in his campaign to reduce urban noise pollution.
Weather conditions in New York present another major challenge, particularly during the harsh winter months. Fog, strong winds and freezing temperatures frequently cause flight cancellations or severe delays at the three main helicopter pads in Manhattan.
LeBron would not be the first NBA star to utilize helicopters for regular travel. Legends like Kawhi Leonard and the late Kobe Bryant also commuted this way. However, they lived in Los Angeles, which boasts a more favorable climate for helicopter rides.
Even so, Bryant, along with eight others, died in a helicopter crash caused by fog in 2020.
Each one-way flight between New York and Philadelphia is estimated to cost around $4,000.
Next season, LeBron is expected to receive a salary of around $3.8 million, his lowest since entering the NBA. However, throughout his decorated career, LeBron has earned over $580 million in NBA salaries alone, besides his income from advertising deals, most notably his lifetime sponsorship with Nike, which together made him the first NBA player to reach a net worth of over $1 billion while still active, Forbes reported.

LeBron would join a list of Philadelphia 76ers players who chose to live in New York. Former guard JJ Redick previously resided in Brooklyn during his tenure with the 76ers. Icon Wilt Chamberlain also lived in Harlem, where he ran a popular nightclub.
However, neither Redick nor Chamberlain attempted to travel by helicopter like LeBron.
The blockbuster arrival of LeBron to the 76ers has quickly created a massive impact across the NBA. His contract with the franchise is for two years, with the second season being optional.
Although his new salary is significantly lower than the $52 million he received last season, LeBron is predicted to bring huge economic benefits to Philadelphia. Auditing firms estimate the deal could generate an economic impact of between $250 million and $430 million for the city, Marca reported.
Tickets for the 76ers’ upcoming season have already sold out.
Last season, the average ticket price at the Xfinity Mobile Arena was only around $68. Now, for the first preseason game against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 17, the cheapest available tickets are priced at $283, even though LeBron’s participation in the exhibition is not guaranteed.
The additions of LeBron and Jaylen Brown make the 76ers one of the most highly anticipated teams for the upcoming season. Premium matchups, such as opening night, Christmas Day, or the season finale, are predicted to have ultra-high ticket prices as fans hope to see one of the greatest players in NBA history in probably his last season.
