Assam-based entrepreneur Diganta Das has transformed years of struggle and his experience in the food industry into a successful frozen parantha business. Today he earns more than Rs 50 lakh every month. However, this journey was not so easy for him.
From daily wage laborer to security guard
Diganta Das, a resident of Gohpur in Biswanath district of Assam, grew up in financial poverty and started working soon after passing 10th class in 2001. Initially he did construction work with the Border Roads Organization near the Arunachal Pradesh border, where he got about Rs 1200 a month.
Later he worked in Sikkim and then moved to Bengaluru in 2011. There he worked as a security guard at a salary of about Rs 4500 per month and also did room-service work in a hotel. Due to low salary and delay in payment, he started looking for other opportunities.
Learned the art of making paratha
In the year 2012, Diganta Das started working as a cook in a hotel in Hoskote, Bengaluru. While working there, he learned about organized food production and learned how to make layered Malabar Paratha. After this, he gained more experience as a paratha maker and learned such production techniques which later became the foundation of his own business.
His progress came to a halt in 2017 when a high-voltage cable fell on him, paralyzing him. It took him almost 2 years to recover.
Started business with investment of Rs 7 lakh
After recovering from the accident, one of his friends contacted him who wanted to start a paratha making factory in Assam. In 2022, he started Daily Fresh Food by investing his entire savings of Rs 7 lakh. His friend helped in arranging the machinery.
Initially this business used to supply frozen Malabar Parotta to local shops. By consistently maintaining good quality, taste and cleanliness, the company gradually increased its customer base. Today the company makes more than 20 thousand parathas every day, which becomes a source of immense income for Diganta Das.
