Legal problems increase for Mamata Banerjee, complaint filed on alleged communal statement before elections

Kolkata. Former Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is once again seen embroiled in legal disputes. A complaint has been lodged against him at Netaji Nagar police station for allegedly making communal remarks at a protest stage organized in Kolkata before the assembly elections. Police has started the investigation of the matter.

According to the information, complainant Tushar Kanti Das has alleged that the statements made by Mamata Banerjee during the political rally were of inflammatory nature, which raised the possibility of affecting communal harmony and increasing tension between different communities.

The complaint states that these alleged comments may create an atmosphere of fear, insecurity and distrust among the people, which is likely to have a negative impact on social harmony and democratic environment. The complainant has demanded legal action in the matter.

It is noteworthy that this is the second complaint against Mamata Banerjee after the defeat of TMC in the 2026 assembly elections. Earlier in May, an FIR was registered against him at Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station. This complaint was made by lawyer Rinki Chattopadhyay Singh.

In that complaint, it was alleged that Mamata Banerjee had made objectionable remarks about Sanatan Dharma, which hurt religious sentiments. Besides, he was also accused of giving controversial statements regarding a particular community.

At present, investigation is going on in both the cases and the police is investigating the related facts.
