Wearing any kind of cap or hat is prohibited. There are also rules regarding vermillion, according to which if a woman applies vermillion, it should be in very small quantity and should not be visible on the forehead. There is no exemption for wearing bindi.
After seeing the controversy happening on social media, Lenskart founder and CEO Piyush Bansal himself came forward. Through the post, he informed about the situation of the post going viral regarding dress code and said that the post which is going viral is an old and wrong document.
The company’s grooming policy has changed. He also said that there are no restrictions regarding religious faith and culture. He clarified that no ban has been imposed on any religious expression including Bindi and Tilak Kalava.
Lenskart is the country’s leading eyewear company. The company’s net profit reached Rs 1.31 billion in January. The company’s revenue increased by 38.8% and is around $23 billion. Piyush Bansal remains in the news a lot after coming to Shark Tank India. In the year 2019, Piyush Bansal’s startup became a unicorn. The valuation of the company is around $5.6 billion.
Film producer-director Ashok Pandit has also strongly criticized the dress code policy of Lenskart by sharing the video. She has shared the photo of the dress code page in the company’s style guide and has written that wearing hijab is allowed in the company, but applying religious tilak, tilak, bindi, mehndi is not allowed.
