SpiceJet-Akasa planes collide at Delhi airport, passengers rescued
A case of collision between Akasa Air and SpiceJet planes has come to light at Delhi’s IGI Airport. This accident happened when one aircraft was doing pushback and the other was taxiing. It is a matter of relief that there is no news of anyone being injured. Both the planes involved in the accident have been grounded. A major plane crash was averted at Delhi airport. A SpiceJet aircraft collided with an Akasa Air aircraft during taxiing (parking the plane) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport). In this incident, the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft has been damaged.
A major accident was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday. This incident happened when one plane was pushing the plane and the other was taxiing towards the gate. According to preliminary information, Akasa Air plane (QP 1406) was being pushed back from Delhi to Hyderabad. At the same time, the Spice Jet plane (VT-SLB) coming from Leh to Delhi was moving from the runway towards the gate.
Meanwhile, the wings of both the aircraft collided with each other. In this collision, the right winglet of Spice Jet’s Boeing (B737-700) plane has been seriously damaged, while the left winglet (horizontal stabilizer) of the other plane has also been damaged. After this incident, the SpiceJet plane has been grounded at Delhi airport itself.
On this incident, SpiceJet spokesperson said that a B737-700 aircraft of SpiceJet collided with an aircraft of another airline while it was taxiing. Due to the collision, the winglet of the right wing of the SpiceJet aircraft has been damaged. At the same time, the rear part (horizontal stabilizer) of the plane of another airline has been damaged.
Actually, this incident happened near Terminal 1 when the Akasa Air aircraft (QP 1406) was parked after pushback and the SpiceJet aircraft (B737-700) which had come from Leh. According to the information, due to this collision, the right wing of the SpiceJet aircraft and the left stabilizer of the Akasa Air aircraft have been damaged. It is fortunate that no passenger or crew was injured during this period.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air spokesperson said in a statement, ‘On April 16, 2026, Akasa Air flight QP-1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad had to return to the bay. The Akasa Air plane was parked in the bay area when it collided with a plane of another airline. All passengers and crew were safely deboarded from the aircraft. The ground staff of the airline made alternative arrangements to reach the passengers to Hyderabad as soon as possible.
