Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani has been admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi with a chest infection, hospital officials said.
The 98-year-old leader was brought to the hospital at around 7:30 pm on Friday and admitted to the pulmonary department. Officials said his condition is stable and he is under observation by a team of doctors, with medical tests being conducted.
Advani is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, with doctors monitoring his condition.
This is the latest in a series of hospitalizations for the veteran leader in recent years. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in May 2026 for age-related health complications and was discharged after receiving medical care for a few days.
In December 2024, Advani was admitted to the intensive care unit of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital for medical management and investigations. He was treated under the supervision of a neurologist, with the hospital later reporting that his condition was stable and improving.
Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, Advani is among the most prominent leaders in the BJP's history. He served as party president on multiple occasions and played a major role in expanding the organization's political and electoral presence across the country.
His 1990 Ram Rath Yatra became a significant episode in Indian politics and contributed to the BJP's expansion during that period.
Advani served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 in the government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also held key portfolios, including Home Affairs, during his political career.
For his contribution to public life, Advani was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 2024. He was earlier awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
