The Lok Sabha was again disrupted on Tuesday after resuming proceedings amid continued uproar during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Minutes after the House reconvened at 11 a.m., it was adjourned until 2 p.m. The Speaker later adjourned the House until 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
As soon as the House reconvened, opposition MPs began raising slogans, demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah appear in the House and answer questions about the police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
Speaker Om Birla appealed to the MPs to remain in their seats and allow Question Hour to proceed peacefully. He said it was a “crucial” time and that sloganeering would prevent important issues from being discussed, but the opposition’s uproar persisted. The House was then adjourned, first until 2 p.m. and then until the next day.
This monsoon session of Parliament has been marred by uproar since its inception. The opposition has been demanding answers from the government regarding the NEET paper leak and the police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar. The opposition alleges that firing was used against protesters, and the Home Minister should make a statement in the House.
Earlier on Monday, a key bill was passed amid uproar from the opposition. The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026, aimed at increasing the number of judges in the Supreme Court, was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the bill in the House amid opposition sloganeering. Krishna Prasad Tenety, who was presiding over the proceedings, repeatedly appealed to members to maintain peace and allow the House to function, but the protests continued. Despite this, the bill was approved.
