Over the past few months, the country has seen significant changes regarding cooking gas. While commercial gas cylinder prices have seen some relief—on August 1st alone, they became cheaper by approximately ₹200, and the price has fallen by a total of ₹385 in the past two months. While the meager subsidy of ₹19.57 for non-Ujjwala customers will be suspended, the biggest blow will be to Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries, who receive a direct subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder. If the subsidy is stopped, monthly refills will prove to be very expensive. Local gas distributors say that the easiest way to avoid paperwork hassles is to complete the verification process in a timely manner.
How to get e-KYC done sitting at home or by visiting an agency?
Gas companies have opened both online and offline avenues for consumer convenience. If you’re tech-savvy, you can complete e-KYC using facial authentication or OTP through the official mobile app of the respective gas company (such as HP Pay, IndianOil One, or Hello BPCL).
Those who are not comfortable with the online process can visit their nearest LPG distributor and complete biometric (thumbprint) verification within minutes. You’ll need to bring your Aadhaar card and your gas connection’s consumer passbook with you. Keep in mind that crowds at agencies may increase after August 16th, so complete this process today without waiting for the deadline.
