LPG Subsidy: Rules will change from October 1! If you want subsidy then this important work will have to be done

New Delhi. This is important news for consumers taking advantage of subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders. Aadhaar biometric authentication is being made mandatory from October 1. This step of the government is aimed at ensuring that the benefit of LPG subsidy reaches only eligible consumers and to prevent its misuse through fake or duplicate connections.

Verification of 27.43 crore consumers completed

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as of September 19, Aadhaar biometric verification of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG customers, i.e. about 89.9 percent of the consumers, has been completed.

The government had initially set the deadline for this as June 30, which was later extended to September 14. Consumers who have already completed the Aadhaar biometric verification or e-KYC process will not need to do it again.

Indirect subsidy of around ₹ 210 in September

In September 2026, an indirect subsidy of about Rs 210 is being available on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder. According to the ministry, consumers who have not yet done Aadhaar verification will have to complete this process first to book subsidized cylinders.

How to get LPG Aadhaar verification done?

Consumers can complete their Aadhaar biometric authentication in multiple ways. For:

  • Verification can be done by visiting the showroom of the LPG distributor.
  • At the time of delivery of the cylinder, the process can be completed through the mobile app of the delivery employee.
  • Aadhaar biometric verification can also be done through the mobile app of the concerned oil company.
What will happen if verification is not done?

The supply of LPG cylinders will not be stopped to consumers who do not undergo Aadhaar biometric authentication. However, such customers will not get the benefit of subsidy and will have to buy the cylinder at market price.

Such consumers will have to register through the digital platform of the concerned oil company, web portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or through facilities like IVRS.

Depending on local availability, 5 or 10 kg LPG cylinders can also be provided to such consumers.

What is important for common consumers?

If you avail the benefit of subsidy on domestic LPG and have not yet done Aadhaar biometric verification, then it will be necessary to complete this process before October 1. At the same time, customers whose e-KYC or biometric process has already been completed will not need to undergo re-verification.
