Lucknow: 70 feet long tin shed collapses at Charbagh station, 3 including TTE injured, more than 24 trains affected

Lucknow29 May. A major accident was averted on Friday morning at Charbagh, the main railway station of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, when a heavy tin shed about 60-70 feet long installed on platform number five suddenly collapsed and fell down.

It was fortunate that at the time of the accident, the number of passengers on the platform was negligible and there was no train standing on the platform, due to which major loss of life was avoided. However, three people were partially injured after being hit by the debris of the shed, including two railway passengers and a Railway Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE).

Crane engaged in relief work

As soon as the shed fell, there was a loud noise on the platform, due to which there was a stampede among the passengers present there. Immediately after the accident, Railway Protection Force personnel and local railway officials immediately took charge on the spot. To clear the debris as soon as possible, the help of crane was taken and relief work was started rapidly.

Injured admitted to hospital

Sunil Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway Lucknow Division, said that at the time of this accident which happened at around 8.15 am, passengers Abhishek and Sahil present on the platform were hit by the debris. TTE Bhupendra Singh, who was on duty, also suffered injuries at many places on his body during this period. The railway administration admitted all the injured to a nearby private hospital in Lucknow after quick first aid, where their condition is stable.

Senior officials inspected the incident site closely

As soon as information about the accident was received, DRM Sunil Kumar Verma and RLDA Chief Project Manager Pavas Yadav reached the spot along with the technical team of the bridge workshop. Senior officials inspected the incident site closely and started relief work under their supervision. Railway technical staff cut and separated the dangerous parts of the broken shed so that the platform could be made completely safe.

Two dozen trains were affected

Due to the sudden accident, train operations in this part of Charbagh station were disrupted for a long time and passengers had to face inconvenience. For security reasons, the movement of trains on platform number five was completely stopped. Howrah-Dehradun Express coming on the same route also had to be stopped for some time near the accident site as a precautionary measure. All other trains coming to this platform were diverted to other platforms of the station, affecting the schedule of more than two dozen trains.

DRM ordered a high level investigation into the accident

DRM Sunil Kumar Verma has ordered a high level investigation into this accident. For this, a special team of technical experts of Railways has been formed, which will find out the real reasons behind the collapse of this shed. Sunil Kumar said that if any negligence of any officer, employee or RLDA is revealed in the investigation report, then strict punitive action will be taken against them immediately.
