Lucknow markets buzz on Akshaya Tritiya…Business worth Rs 150 crores, gold worth Rs 55 crores sold in one day
Lucknow, Read: About Rs 150 crore business was done in the city on Akshaya Tritiya. On the auspicious time, people purchased gold worth Rs 55 crore and 200 kg silver worth Rs 6 crore. Clothes, electronic equipment and vehicles worth more than Rs 100 crore were also sold. More than 1500 vehicles are expected to be sold. According to traders, due to high prices of gold and silver, customers preferred light jewellery. 18 to 22 carat jewelery was sold more. The purchase of wedding favors was also done on Akshaya Tritiya itself.
Due to increase in the prices of gold and silver, silver jewelery became the first choice instead of gold for the customers purchasing sahalag. Senior Vice President of Chowk Sarafa Association, Adish Jain said that the price of 24 carat gold was Rs 1,58,200 per ten grams and the price of 22 carat gold was Rs 1,46,100 per 10 grams. On Akshaya Tritiya, people preferred 18 and 22 carat light gold jewellery. Customers bought a lot of silver coins and jewellery. He told that there was crowd in the market from 5 pm till late night. Despite being priced at Rs 2.56 lakh per 10 grams, silver was sold in abundance. These include silver utensils, anklets, toe rings etc. along with coins.
A lot of readymade garments, lehengas, sarees etc. were sold in markets like Aminabad, Bhootnath Market, Hazratganj, Patrakarpuram, Ganeshganj etc. Prabhu Jalan, General Secretary of Swadeshi Market located on Shri Ram Road and textile businessman, said that with the start of Sahalag season along with Akshaya Tritiya, the market will be vibrant. On Sunday, lehengas worth Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh were sold in the textile market. Apart from this, discounts were offered on sarees, bedsheets, curtains, readymade garments and branded items.
