According to media reports, the controversy started when former state president Ajay Rai arrived at the program. According to reports, Congress councilor Mamta Chaudhary saw him and said, don't want to see your face, go away from here. On this Ajay Rai retorted and replied 'Stay within your limits'. Meanwhile, one of his supporters took out his shoe and a clash started between people from both the sides.

As the uproar increased, Ajay Rai sat on strike in the party office itself. He alleged that he was misbehaved. Rajya Sabha MPs Pramod Tiwari and Imran Masood reached the spot to handle the situation. Pramod Tiwari tried to convince Ajay Rai and also folded his hands in front of him, while Imran Masood also talked to him.

Protest ended after talks with Rahul Gandhi

According to sources, Ajay Rai had also raised the demand to expel Mamta Chaudhary from the party. However, no final decision on this demand has been officially confirmed by the party leadership.

It has also come to light that there was already tension between Ajay Rai and Mamta Chaudhary. It is said that there was a dispute between the two in 2023. After this, Ajay Rai had talked about banning Mamata from coming to the party office. Mamta Chaudhary is the councilor of Malviya Nagar, Lucknow and is considered close to Aradhana Mishra Mona.

Ajay Rai did not attend the press conference held after the assuming charge programme. When asked questions about this, Imran Masood defended him. He said that there is no tradition of the former state president attending press conferences and he has been taken charge of the party office. Imran Masood said that the party has expressed confidence in him and he will try to live up to this responsibility. He expressed confidence of strengthening the Congress organization in Uttar Pradesh and performing better in the upcoming elections.
