From Akash to Pinaka… ‘Made in India’ weapons sound on foreign soil; Uneasiness increased in Turkey-Pakistan

Armenia Military Parade: Armenia, a small country situated between Europe and Asia, has now emerged as a major partner of India’s defense industry. The biggest example of this was seen recently when a large number of Indian weapons and defense systems were displayed in the military parade of Armenia. Every year on 28 May, Armenia celebrates its ‘Republic Day’ and organizes a grand military parade in the capital ‘Yerevan’. This time Indian defense technology attracted the attention of the world.

Indian weapons caught everyone’s attention

Many modern weapons of India were seen in this parade. These included Akash-1S Air Defense System, Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher, ATAGS 155mm Artillery System and Swathi Weapon Locating Radar. For the first time, Armenia presented Indian weapons to the world on such a large scale as part of its military power.

Akash and Pinaka grabbed the most headlines

The most talked about thing in the military parade was the Akash-1S missile system. This is a modern air defense system developed in India, which has been prepared by Defense Research and Development Organization i.e. DRDO. It is considered capable of shooting down fighter aircraft, drones and cruise missiles up to a distance of about 30 kilometers. Armenia had signed an Akash deal worth about $720 million in 2022, which was its first foreign order.

Apart from this, the Guided Pinaka Rocket System was also the center of attraction in the parade. Its range is said to be about 75 kilometers and it is capable of firing multiple rockets simultaneously. Armenia has become the first foreign country to purchase Guided Pinaka.

Indian artillery and radar systems also included

Not only missile and rocket systems, but also India’s indigenous artillery and radar systems have now become part of Armenia’s army. High mobility artillery systems like MArG 155-BR were also shown in the parade. It is considered capable of operating rapidly in difficult hilly areas. Swathi radar system helps in locating enemy firing locations.

Why did Armenia step towards India?

After the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict, Armenia realized that its old Russian weapon systems were weakening in the face of modern drone and missile warfare. On the other hand, Azerbaijan got the support of Turkey and Pakistan. After this strategic change, Armenia decided to buy advanced defense equipment from India. According to reports, since 2020, Armenia has signed defense agreements worth about $2 billion with India.

India’s defense exports are growing rapidly in the world

India’s defense exports have grown rapidly in the last decade. While India’s defense exports were only ₹686 crore in 2013-14, it increased to ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025-26. Now India is exporting arms and defense equipment to more than 100 countries. India, which was the world’s largest arms importer for a long time, is now moving rapidly in the list of defense exporting countries.

‘Made in India’ creates panic in Turkey and Pakistan

The growing military partnership between India and Armenia is also considered very important from a strategic point of view. This is being seen as an answer to the Turkey-Azerbaijan-Pakistan axis. According to experts, India is now strengthening its strategic influence between West Asia and Europe. The display of Indian weapons in the military parade of Armenia shows that ‘Made in India’ defense technology has now made its strong mark at the global level.
