What began as a festive request for Diwali sweets on social media has spiralled into an overwhelming nightmare for Madurai-based content creator Veeramani.
After publicly sharing his address and phone number on social media, hoping followers might send him a box of sweets, he was targeted by a relentless Cash-on-Delivery (COD) prank.
Delivery executives from major e-commerce and food delivery platforms soon began arriving at his doorstep with high-end goods he had never ordered—including smartphones, washing machines, refrigerators, and a smart TV valued at Rs 1.69 lakh. Since the orders were placed on COD, delivery agents pressed him for payment and OTPs, which he could not provide.
Taking to Instagram, a visibly distressed Veeramani appealed to the pranksters: “Fifteen orders came in half an hour… I don’t have money for all of that.” Expressing concern for delivery workers being dragged into the ordeal, he urged people to stop.
With harassment continuing and fake online posts claiming even heavy machinery had been ordered, Veeramani revealed he is fleeing town to escape the chaos.
