In view of the serious situation of drought in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the drought situation in the state, the assistance being given to farmers and the financial assistance required from the Centre.
Fadnavis demanded the Center to provide maximum financial assistance to Maharashtra under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
Fadnavis briefed Amit Shah about the status of drought-hit areas in Maharashtra and the measures being taken by the state government. A statement was also submitted to the center on behalf of the state government.
Drought in 265 taluks
Drought has been declared in 265 talukas out of 358 in Maharashtra. Due to lack of rain, there has been a huge loss of agriculture in many areas and the farmers are in trouble. Various concessions and relief measures have been announced by the state government for the drought affected areas.
Fadnavis said there is a need for central-state coordination to reach the aid from the central government to the drought-affected farmers and citizens.
The central team will come to Maharashtra
Meanwhile, the central government team is going to enter Maharashtra to directly inspect the drought-affected areas. The team will visit the drought affected areas of the state from October 8 to 11 and take stock of the situation. Based on this inspection, the severity of the drought and the damage will be assessed and a decision will be taken by the Center regarding assistance.

Promise of help from Amit Shah
Fadnavis said that Amit Shah has assured that the central government will provide all necessary help to the state in the drought situation of Maharashtra. He also clarified that efforts will be made to provide relief to drought-affected farmers and citizens through the joint efforts of the central and state governments.
After this visit, Fadnavis posted on social media platform 'X' and informed that he has demanded maximum help from the Center for Maharashtra. He also mentioned that he has received a positive response from the Centre.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Chandra Pawar) President Sharad Pawar has also visited the drought affected areas and interacted with the farmers. He has demanded immediate relief to the drought-affected farmers.
