New Delhi : A heart-wrenching accident took place in Amravati district of Maharashtra on Monday morning. A massive fire broke out in the neonatal ward of a government women's hospital located here, in which three innocent newborns died due to scorching and suffocation, while 6 children are said to be seriously injured.
In fact, a sudden fire broke out in the Special Newborn Care Unit (NICU/SNCU) located on the third floor of the District Women's Hospital at around 3:30 am on Monday. If initial reports are to be believed, this accident happened due to a massive explosion in a ventilator installed in the ward. After the explosion, a fire broke out, due to which three newborn children admitted there died due to scorching and suffocation.
Fire spread with explosion, screams in the ward
According to eyewitnesses, when the accident happened on Monday morning, most of the people were sleeping, when suddenly there was a loud sound of a ventilator bursting from the child ward on the third floor. Within no time, massive flames and smoke spread throughout the ward. There were a total of 39 newborn babies inside the ward at the time of the accident. Who were undergoing treatment. It is being told that most of them were on life support system.
The promptness of the staff saved the lives of many innocent people.
It is being told that as soon as the sound of the explosion was heard, the doctors, nurses and security staff of the hospital started relief and rescue operations without wasting any time. Amidst the dense smoke, doctors, nurses and security staff did not even care about their lives and pulled out 36 children safely. However, 3 children could not be saved due to severe burn injuries and suffocation due to smoke. The condition of about 6 children is critical and they are being treated in the nearby Super Specialty Hospital, where a special team of doctors is looking after them.
