Maharashtra: Large number of retrenchments in ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, names of 54 lakh women removed from the list.
Mumbai: Retrenchment has been done on a large scale in the famous ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ of Maharashtra Government. In this scheme, which was started to provide financial assistance every month to economically weaker women, 54 lakh women have been declared ineligible after a strict verification campaign. After this decision of the government, now only 1.89 crore women will get the benefit of the scheme. Earlier, more than 2.43 crore women had registered for this scheme. After e-KYC and verification of documents, a large number of names were removed from the list.

Real picture revealed after e-KYC
The state government had made e-KYC i.e. electronic Know Your Customer process mandatory for all beneficiaries. Its objective was to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only those women who are genuinely financially needy. Despite extending the deadline thrice, lakhs of women could not complete their verification by the last date of April 30. After this, the government released the final list and declared a large number of beneficiaries ineligible.
Names deleted for exceeding income limit
This scheme has been specially designed for those families whose annual income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh. During investigation, it was revealed that the families of many women were above this income limit, yet they were taking benefits of the scheme. Not only this, many such cases also came to light in which the family members of the women were in government jobs or the beneficiaries themselves were female government employees. According to the rules, such people cannot get the benefit of this scheme.

Technical mistake also became the reason
Some women were also declared ineligible due to technical reasons. Wrong information was entered in many applications. For example, some women mistakenly registered themselves as government employees during registration, causing their applications to automatically fall into the doubtful category. In such cases, the government has clarified that the final decision has been taken only on the basis of errors found during verification.
Eligible women will continue to get Rs 1500
The government has made it clear that an assistance amount of Rs 1,500 will be sent directly to the bank account of women whose names are included in the final eligible list. The financial assistance to those women who have been declared ineligible has been stopped with immediate effect. The government is also recovering the amount already paid in serious fraud cases.
